Susie Sefton 1941-2020
Susan Jane (Weil) Sefton 78, of Gull Lake, Michigan, died January 5, 2020, in West Palm Beach, Florida after a brief illness. Susie was born in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, the only child of Jack and Evangeline Weil. She spent her childhood there and graduated from Northside High School. While at Northside, she met Sam, who would become her husband of more than 60 years.
After high school, Susie and Sam married on August 17, 1958 and lived in Indianapolis, Kalamazoo, Fairbanks, AK and Ann Arbor. Susie strongly supported Sam while he completed his medical training and military service. Eventually the couple settled in their longtime home of Portage, Michigan where they raised their four wonderful children.
Susie loved spending time at the family’s homes on Gull Lake and Singer Island, Florida. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who was intimately involved in the lives of her grandchildren until the very last day she lived.
Susie was blessed with countless friends. She loved bridge, attending monthly book club and gourmet dinner group, as well as Facebook. She was a prominent fixture at University of Michigan football games, assuming the weather was good.
Susie possessed an unfailingly kind manner, a fervent love for her family and friends, and a grateful and positive spirit. She was small in stature, but left an immeasurable lasting effect on all who were privileged to know her and be loved by her. Susie and Sam are members of Temple B’Nai Israel.
Susie was preceded in death by her parents, Jack Oden Weil and Evangeline Faith (Switzer) Weil. She is survived by her husband, Samuel M. Sefton; 4 children: Deborah (Scott) Reeves, Samuel (Abigail) Sefton, Michael (Hilary) Sefton, and David Sefton; 10 grandchildren: Graham Sefton, Jackson Reeves, Sydnee Sefton, William Reeves, Benjamin Sefton, Madyson Sefton, Luke Sefton, Gabriel Sefton, Jack Sefton, and Charlotte Sefton.
