Maggie Woodruff 1940-2023

Woodruff, Margaret C. “Maggie”
7/3/1940 – 12/23/2023
Richland

Margaret C Woodruff (Maggie) passed away December 23, 2023, with her loving family at her side. Born in Stephenson MI, a small town up north, on July 3, 1940, Maggie had a way of blending the 3rd with the 4th (and sometimes the 3rd with the Month), making a grand celebration of her Birthday always one to remember and enjoy. Holiday events will never be the same without Maggie’s attention to detail and presentation.
A graduate of Stephenson High School in 1958 she came to Kalamazoo to attend Western Michigan University, graduating with a BS in Science and Art.
She is survived by her children John Dunham Hotop, Emily Anne (Casey) Blair, grandchildren Grace Margaret Anglin, Rocco Norbert Anglin, and Ian Woodruff, stepson Peter (Amanda) Woodruff, and brothers Thomas (Becky) Salp and James (Karen) Salp. She was predeceased by her son Mark Crean Hotop, stepson James Andrew Woodruff and first husband N. John Hotop.
Maggie was involved in many community activities and served on several Boards over the years. She enjoyed her dear friends at Book Club and So-So gatherings. She retired from the Michigan Maritime Museum recently after 15 years of managing the purchasing and display of nautical items for the Ship Store. This was a joy for her and continues as a lasting source of revenue for the Michigan Maritime Museum. A member of St Ann’s Catholic Church, Augusta, MI, she tended to her faith.
Maggie considered marrying Jim Woodruff one of the highlights of her life and they became best friends and partners for life. They enjoyed 34 years together and had many adventures around the world and were planning many more. Jim was always a very deeply devoted partner, especially through Maggie’s illness.
There will be no visitation. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated by Very Rev. Robert Creagan at St Augustine Cathedral in Kalamazoo, 11 a.m. Thursday, January 4, 2024. A Celebration of her life will follow at the Gull Lake Country Club. All are welcome.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Michigan Maritime Museum, 260 Dyckman Ave, South Haven, MI 49090 or Loaves and Fishes, 901 Portage St., Kalamazoo, MI 49001, or a charity of your choice.
Funeral arrangements have been made by Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Cremation Preneed Care, Richland Chapel. Personal messages for the family may be placed at www.farleyestesdowdle.com.
