Predator Animals in Idlewild?

Updated 08 September: The Clarks put up a trail cam, and earlier this week caught this image of an animal crossing the road in front of their house. It’s a grainy image, to be sure, but at this point it seems like we might have a cougar in the area. The Michigan DNR has been notified. From this photo and an earlier encounter (below), it is estimated to be approximately 4-5ft long, 60lb+.

Here is an article about what to do if you encounter a cougar:

The Clarks reported last night:

“Just an FYI, maybe worth sharing with the neighborhood. Our dog Skipper was attacked tonight at 11:30pm on our lake-side patio by an unknown animal (too dark to see)..he is a 65lb German Shepard mix…so not a small dog to go after. He wrestled the animal and it chased him, luckily he got away and is ok, but it was very scary! We had suspected an animal attack was what killed our Norwich terrier in July, now I am certain. Although uncommon in our area, there have been sightings of what people have said looked and sounded like a bobcat…”
